Pre-cut masks in kabuki paper for a model of the Su-35S aircraft in 1:72 scale. This is neither a kit nor a replacement part, but an accessory that simplifies painting. The designation BASIC is the entry level in the manufacturer's scheme; for the same aircraft and scale the manufacturer also makes a higher EXPERT level and two separate sets focused on the exhaust nozzles. The extent of the package is not stated here — check it before you order.
The Su-35S has a large sliding canopy with a pronounced frame and a separate windshield. In 1:72 scale the whole cockpit measures only a few centimeters and the frames in it are as thin as a hair. This is exactly where cutting tape by hand pays off least: a tenth of a millimeter missing from one stroke of the scalpel shows immediately once sprayed, and the frame looks twisted. A machine-cut mask holds a constant width along the whole length of the frame.
Work with fine-tipped tweezers, as shapes of this size practically cannot be picked up with the fingers. If a mask lands out of place, lift it carefully and lay it down again — kabuki paper will take several corrections before it loses its tack. Fill in the areas inside the cockpit that a pre-cut shape does not reach with liquid mask or a narrow strip of tape. Spray straight down from above, not at an angle under the edge of the mask, as otherwise the paint will seep even under well-pressed paper.
The set holds masking material only. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
