This is a set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for 1:72 scale, intended for masking the glazing and other surfaces while spraying a model of the Japanese high-altitude fighter Tachikawa Ki-94-II. The set holds no plastic parts and no decals — it is an accessory used together with a kit and paints. The masks are cut to the shape of the individual panes of the glazing, so the laborious measuring and cutting of ordinary masking tape directly on the model falls away.
The Ki-94-II was a single-engine fighter with a radial engine, designed by Tachikawa as a high-altitude interceptor with a pressurized cockpit. It came about at the very end of the Second World War and remained at the prototype stage — the machine never reached series production. That is exactly why it is a subject that appears in the modeling range only rarely and accessories for it are welcome.
Before applying them, clean the glazing of grease and dust, best of all with just lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap and a soft cloth. Lift the mask off the backing with pointed tweezers or a toothpick, lay it on the frame and press it down gently with a finger or a wooden stick so that the edge seats all the way round. On very thin frames it helps to lay the mask in the middle of the pane first and only then press it out to the edges. Spray several thin coats — the thinner the application, the crisper the edge under the mask. Lift the mask off while the paint is still freshly dry, not after several days, when the finish is hard and the edge may peel away. Always pull at an angle backwards, not straight up. Keep any unused masks on their backing and store them flat, away from heat and direct sunlight, so that the adhesive does not harden.
The set holds only the masks. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
