Masks for the glazing of the Soviet Tupolev Tu-16 jet bomber in 1:72 scale. The parts are cut from the Trumpeter kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Tu-16 flew at the beginning of the 1950s, and burying its engines at the wing root gave the aircraft a clean fuselage and an unusual sound. For its day it was unusual in one more thing: a jet bomber kept a glazed nose for the navigator, an element inherited from the piston era. The machine saw dozens of forms, from missile carriers to reconnaissance and jamming versions, and in licensed Chinese production it flew long after the Soviet Air Force began retiring it. In the reporting system of the North Atlantic alliance it carried the name Badger.
The glazed navigator's nose together with the cockpit form two separate tasks on this type, with framing that runs differently. The prepared masks handle both without the modeler having to work out where to run the boundary on a rounded tip. On a large model the number of transparencies also adds up quickly, and preparing them by hand would take more time than painting the aircraft itself.
Models of the Tu-16 are most often finished in bare metal or in a light anti-flash scheme, and with both of them the boundary on the glazing has to be clean, otherwise the whole fuselage area falls apart visually.
