Aviattic 1:72 German Naval Hex, hand-painted fabric: a decal sheet reproducing the hexagonal naval camouflage pattern of German aircraft of the First World War in the form of a hand-painted covering.
Responsibility details are not available.
This Aviattic decal sheet in 1:72 scale reproduces the German naval hexagonal camouflage pattern Naval Hex in a treatment that matches hand-painted fabric. Compared with the machine-printed version, this one carries the fine irregularities and the liveliness of paint applied by hand, exactly the character that tells a naval machine apart from standard printed coverings.
During the First World War Imperial German naval aviation used camouflage made up of hexagonal fields on its machines. Some of the coverings were produced by machine printing of the cloth, and some were painted by hand straight onto the fabric, which resulted in softer transitions and small variations in the drawing of the fields. It is this form that the sheet captures.
Cut the segments to templates traced from the model and lay them onto a glossy, smoothed base. Setting solutions will help the decal wrap the raised detail and the edges. Once dry, clear coat the whole; a gently matte surface underlines the impression of painted fabric. The pattern comes out beautifully on the floats and the fuselages of naval machines in a diorama with a water surface.
This is a decal sheet, an accessory rather than a kit of an aircraft. It is applied to a model as a particular build requires.
