A set of spray masks in 1:72 scale for a model of the Douglas A-4E/F Skyhawk. They are stuck on before painting and, once taken off, crisp sprayed edges are left.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk came about as the smallest possible carrier-based attack aircraft that could still carry useful attack armament. The delta wing did without folding, which simplified handling on the deck of an aircraft carrier. The A-4E and A-4F versions differed from the earlier machines in equipment and in the shape of the dorsal part of the fuselage and were among the most numerous. Skyhawks flew with the US Navy and the Marine Corps, and abroad they served for decades afterward.
The set holds spray masks in 1:72 scale. The mask is stuck onto the model, the area is sprayed over and, once it is taken off, a precisely bounded shape is left. Spraying has the advantage over a decal that it leaves no glossy edge of carrier film anywhere and that it holds even on a broken-up surface. The exact extent of the set and the order of steps are in the manufacturer's instructions.
This sequence works well:
The set suits modelers who work with an airbrush and want crisp color fields and edges. Masks tend to be cut to the outline of a particular model, so on a kit from another maker offer them up dry first. The model, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
