The real subject

The A6M2b Reisen was a carrier-based fighter of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service of the early 1940s. A characteristic feature was the long, multi-part canopy, the radial engine in the front of the fuselage and the low-set wing with folding tips. In 1:32 scale the long glazing becomes the most visible part of the model, and with it every inaccuracy in the frames.

Masking and painting

Double-sided masking stands or falls with patience between stages. Stick the inner masks on, spray the interior shade and let it really dry, not just set. Only then turn the part over and work from the outer face. If you hurry both faces, fresh paint on one side takes an impression from the surface or under your fingers, and a repair on a transparent part is always worse than waiting. Hold transparent parts only by the edges or in gloves; grease from your fingers means the paint will not hold in that place and the line will peel away. Before spraying, wash them briefly in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry in the air rather than wiping them with a cloth.
