A photo-etched set of metal parts for a model of the American F-104A Starfighter fighter in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-104A was the first production version of the Starfighter, a single-seat American fighter with a long slender fuselage, short thin wings and a T-tail. The shape of the machine is so simple that every extra detail stands out on a model: the cockpit, the flaps and small linkages are in view at once, because there is nothing to cover them.
This is a set of photo-etched metal parts, which replace or supplement parts of a model in 1:48 scale. Photo-etch suits exactly where the material should be thin: on sheet, bulkheads, panels and straps, where the thickness of a plastic part tells at first glance. Which parts the set holds and where they go on the model is given in the manufacturer's instructions; go through them before you cut anything on the model, because some of the parts are fitted only once the plastic has been reworked.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface rather than by twisting, or they will warp. Make the bends along a ruler or in a bending tool and start from the longest edge. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a minute amount, best from a drop on a wire. Before painting, degrease the parts and use a primer made for metal, otherwise the finish will not hold on the smooth surface and will peel when the model is handled.
The set is for modelers who want to refine shapes where injection-molded plastic is necessarily thicker than the scale would call for.
The aircraft model, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
