Quickwheel 1:48 Panther Ausf. A - masking set

A set of cut self-adhesive masks from the brand Quickwheel meant for painting the wheels of a model of the Panther Ausf. A tank in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor replacement parts: it is an aid you use only when painting the assembled running gear. The masks are stuck onto the areas that are to stay in the original color, the surroundings are sprayed over and the templates are taken off once dry.

What the set is for

The road wheels of tracked vehicles have rubber tires, which differ in color from the metal disc. Painting the thin dark ring with a brush is long-winded and the edge rarely comes out cleanly, especially when a model has many wheels and they are all supposed to look alike. An exactly cut template makes the boundary crisp and repeatable. The set is cut for a particular kit in 1:48 scale, so before buying check which version of the Panther you are building and from which maker; masks from another package need not fit.

Usage tips

• Spray the wheels in the base color first and let it cure properly, or a film of paint will lift as the mask comes off.
• Press the template down all the way around, so that paint does not flow under the edge.
• Spray in thin coats; a heavy application builds a visible step at the edge.
• Take the masks off shortly after drying, not after several days.
