This is a sheet of waterslide decals, that is an accessory for a finished model rather than a kit. The set is intended for models of the Beaufighter in the TF.Mk.X version in 1:48 scale and serves to mark the machine once the camouflage has been sprayed. The extent of the sheet and the particular schemes chosen are given on the box of the set, because they differ between the individual parts of the line. Several decal sheets for the Beaufighter exist in this scale from different manufacturers, so when choosing go by the exact version designation and the part number in the name.
The Beaufighter was a British twin-engine multirole aircraft with radial engines that grew out of the design of the Beaufort torpedo bomber. It made its mark first as a radar-equipped night fighter and later above all as a strike and anti-shipping machine. The TF Mk X version served with Coastal Command for attacks on shipping targets with a torpedo and unguided rockets and carried cannon armament in the nose. For that role it earned the nickname Torbeau.
British camouflage is matte, and a matte surface is the worst possible base for decals, because microbubbles of air stay under the film and so-called silvering appears. Go over the places under the decals with a gloss coat and let it cure properly. Soak the decal off in warm water, transfer it to its place with a brush and draw the excess water off with the edge of a paper towel. On camouflaged machines a decal softener is useful, as it pulls the film onto the engraved panel lines and onto the rivets. Once dry, wash the adhesive residue off the surface and even the whole model out with a matte coat so that the edges of the film disappear.
This is a decal set, not a kit. The model, paints and varnishes are not included in the package.
