This set from Quinta Studio is a printed color interior on decal paper for a model of the two-seat version of the Mirage 2000-5. It is neither a resin insert nor a photo-etched set: a layer with relief is transferred onto the plastic by soaking in water and once dry it carries finished dials, lettering and shaded panels. In 1:48 scale it is the fastest way to get detail into a cockpit that is very hard to paint with a brush. The set is intended for the Kinetic kit.
The Mirage 2000 is a single-engine tailless aircraft with a delta wing. The version with the letter B is the two-seater, with the cockpits arranged in tandem, and serves for training as well as for combat tasks. The layout of the cockpits on the two-seat versions differs from the single-seaters, so interior sets for the two guises cannot be interchanged. Whether the sheet covers both cockpits or only part of them is stated by the manufacturer on the box.
First spray the interior with the base color and go over it with a gloss coat so that the layer has nowhere to trap air. Soak a segment in lukewarm water only until it can be moved, guide it with a brush and draw the water off. Do not apply a decal softener or a decal fixer; the printed layer is denser than an ordinary decal and their chemicals attack it, so do not press it into recesses either. In the area with the seat, work in parts and let each layer set before you move on to the next. Matte it with clear coat at the end and close the cockpit up only after thorough drying.
This is a modeling accessory, not a kit. The base Kinetic kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
