A bust of the Polish general Sosabowski, the commander of the 1st Independent Polish Parachute Brigade at the Dutch town of Driel in 1944. Height 200 mm.
Responsibility details are not available.
General Sosabowski commanded the 1st Independent Polish Parachute Brigade, a unit put together from Polish soldiers in Great Britain. In September 1944 the brigade was dropped as part of Operation Market Garden near the Dutch village of Driel on the south bank of the Rhine to support the British paratroops fighting on the other side of the river at Arnhem. Sosabowski was among the officers who pointed out the weaknesses of the whole plan in advance.
This is a bust 200 mm high, that is a size on which every stroke of the brush shows. That is exactly why busts are built differently from figures for dioramas: it is not about a scene or about surroundings but about the face, the expression and the material of the uniform. On a small area the modeler has room to do work that would be lost on a figure in 1:35 scale.
Wash and degrease the parts before painting, cut the excess material and the production traces off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down. Fill the seams after gluing carefully, because on a large area every unevenness shows. Apply the primer coat in thin layers so that the modeling of the face is not lost. Build the skin up by gradual glazing from a darker base toward the light places, leave the eyes until the end and keep them suggested rather than drawn in.
Paints and brushes are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
