Instead of built scenery you get a flat printed piece that is laid on a game mat and unambiguously defines where the wood begins and where it ends. The neoprene backing is non-slip and does not curl, so the piece lies where you put it and can be rolled up after the game. The version with six trees is the denser of the two wood pieces the maker offers.

Why flat terrain

• the boundary of the wood is legible and no disputes arise about whether a figure stands inside or outside
• nothing gets in the way when placing figures, unlike three-dimensional trees
• storage and transport are a matter of rolling it up, and the piece will not break
• the surface is non-slip, so the feature does not shift across the mat during play

How to work with it

The piece only has to be laid on a mat, and nothing is glued or assembled. If you need a larger forest massif, combine both wood pieces side by side, as the transition between them is not distracting when seen from above. Clean the neoprene surface with a damp cloth, as aggressive solvents and hot water do the printing no good. Store it rolled up, not folded, so that no crease is left in the material.
