A decal set for the cockpit of a model in 1:48 scale. It is neither photo-etch nor resin but full-color printing with a relief layer, which once settled takes the place of hand-painted belts. The set is written in general terms for Fokker fighters of the First World War, that is for a wider range of machines rather than for a single type.
The cockpits of First World War aircraft are open and seen from above they show practically everything. The seat tends to be plain and the belts are often the only colorful and shapely element in the whole space. Hand painting is demanding on accuracy in 1:48 scale, and the result is always in plain view. A decal with relief solves that: the color separation of strap and fitting is printed and the modeler only has to settle it. Because the manufacturer makes several belt sets of similar content for aircraft of the same period, choose by the exact designation of the set and by the scale; the differences between the individual sets do not always follow from the name.
Paint the interior and overcoat it with gloss varnish so that no silvery veil forms under the decal. Release the decal in warm water and transfer it with a brush. Apply the softener drop by drop and leave the decal undisturbed for at least 45 minutes; the relief layer wrinkles easily under a brush. Let the loose ends of the belts overhang the edge of the seat or the fuselage and give them their shape only once they have begun to set, while they are still pliable. When dry, overcoat with matte varnish and, if you like, bring out the shadows with a fine wash. Because the cockpit is open, finish all of it before you fit the upper wing and the struts.
