A set of relief color decals for the cockpit of the last mass-produced version of the B-17 in 1:48 scale. The printed panels have a thickness of their own, so once stuck down they do not read as a picture but as a fitted instrument panel. The accessory is intended for a plastic model and is fitted before the fuselage is closed, while the cockpit is still accessible.
The B-17G is the most numerously built version of the American four-engine Boeing B-17 bomber, used in the closing stage of the Second World War. It differs from the earlier configurations mainly in its defensive armament, but the flight deck remains characteristic for its large glazing and its extensive instrumentation for four engines. The interior is therefore easy to see on a finished model.
A relief decal differs from a flat one in having a thickness of its own. The base therefore has to be smooth and gloss, otherwise air will be trapped under the decal and the surface will silver. Cut the decal as close as you can, release it in lukewarm water and seat it on its target surface without needless sliding. Apply the softener drop by drop along the edges and let it work by itself, leaving the decal undisturbed for at least 45 minutes; do not run a brush over the relief, or the raised details will be squashed or torn off. When it is dry, go over the surroundings with matte varnish and leave the dials themselves gloss, so that they read as glass.
