This set from Kits-World is intended for the cockpit of a model of the Italian Macchi C.205 fighter in 1:48 scale. It holds full-color decals with a raised relief for the instrument panel and other areas of the cockpit. It is neither a kit nor a photo-etched set: nothing is glued or sanded, and the decals are applied with water onto a painted and varnished interior.
The Macchi C.205 was a single-engine fighter with an inverted V12 engine, developed from an earlier type with a radial engine from the same manufacturer. It belonged to the Italian machines of the so-called Serie 5, that is to the types with a license-built V12 powerplant. The cockpit has the typical European layout with a main panel of gauges, which are easy to see with the canopy open.
Silvering is not a fault of the printing but a matter of optics. When a thin layer of air is left between the decal and the surface of the model, it reflects light and the film reads as a gray or silvery haze. It arises mainly on a matte base, whose microscopic roughness holds the air. The prevention is simple: gloss varnish under the decal, plenty of water while laying it down, squeezing the bubbles out from the center and, if need be, a softener to draw the film down to the shape of the surface. With relief decals, dose the softener drop by drop and do not run a brush over them.
This is a decal set, not a kit and not a finished model. Paints, varnishes, decal softener and the kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
