A Continuous Grass Surface, Display Base for a 1:48 Model (Kits-World)

A large-format printed sheet with a continuous grass surface and no paving. It is neither a kit nor a decal but a finished base on which a model is stood. The printed area measures 675 x 675 mm and corresponds to 1:48 scale.

What is printed on the base

The motif is entirely universal, consisting of unbroken grass with no concrete slabs, planking or marked-out stands. Grass airfields were used from the beginnings of aviation and with a good many machines they are more correct for the period than a paved surface, so this base will cover a wide spectrum of models and eras. At the same time it is a rewarding base wherever the model itself is to stand out and the scene is not to overpower it.

The edge transition and joining the scene

With an unbroken motif the edge is the easiest thing to work with, because the artwork has no oriented pattern for an edge to cut through. You can align the base with a board, frame it or let it overhang freely without the scene suffering. It takes being turned to any angle just as well, which comes in useful when a model is to stand at a slant. If you add loose static grass fiber around the model, the transition between the print and the space of the scene will be softened further still.
