A Kits-World base with a desert surface. The qualifier in the name is no accident: this sheet is printed deliberately softly, without sharply drawn detail. It is a base for a finished model, not a kit or a decal.
A sharply drawn base vies with the model for attention; the eye jumps between the detail of the base and the detail of the kit. Soft artwork removes that conflict: the surface supplies color and mood, but the model remains the main thing. It tells most when photographing, where a blurred base acts like natural depth of field. In a display case it has the same effect when seen from a greater distance.
The 675 x 675 mm square corresponds in 1:48 to about 32 meters of real surface on each side. With the blurred variant it is worth making use of that size and standing the model rather in the middle with a clearance from the edges; the more soft surface around it, the stronger the impression of space. A model pushed up against the edge of the sheet, by contrast, gives away that it is a flat base. For a display case, count on a square around seventy centimeters on a side; for shallower shelves the same motif in a smaller scale is better, and the manufacturer makes that as well.
The printed base alone is sold. The model and the accessories are not included in the package.
