A color display base for a model, 450 x 450 mm, printed with an airfield surface. The motif carries the designation of the 23rd Air Base of the Polish Air Force at Minsk Mazowiecki. The 1:72 scale means that the side of the base corresponds to roughly thirty-two meters of real area, so the model stands on a section of apron rather than on a whole airfield. That is exactly the point: the framing is as tight as on a period photograph and the background does not compete with the model.
A finished model on a bare shelf hangs in the air without any context. A printed surface gives it both a setting and a story without your having to build a diorama: a base with the right artwork is added, the model gets a firm place and the whole thing can be moved at any time. When handling it, moreover, you pick up the base rather than the model, so you do not touch the wings or the propeller. In a display case it unites several machines into one group, and when photographing it takes the place of a distracting background.
Unroll the base on a flat, dry surface and let it settle for a while so that it flattens out. Put the model on it only after the last coat of paint has dried; fresh paint will stick to the base. Clean the surface with a soft dry cloth and do not rely on solvents or on wet wiping. The material, the thickness and the recommended cleaning are given by the manufacturer; go by its instructions.
The base alone is supplied. The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
