The Tiger I is a German heavy tank of the Second World War and one of the best-known tracked machines of all. It has an angular hull with flat armor plates, a massive turret and an 88 mm KwK 36 gun with a barrel length of 56 calibers. The combat weight was around fifty-seven tons and the crew numbered five men. For movement by rail, the wide combat tracks were exchanged for narrower transport ones.
Late production machines differ from the early ones in a number of details. The most conspicuous are the all-steel road wheels without rubber tires, a modified commander's cupola and simplified hull fittings, from which accessories were dropped as the war went on. These differences are worth attention when choosing markings: a model built as a late machine should not carry insignia that were worn only at the beginning of the type's service.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Cut the individual parts off with a sharp blade, level the mating surfaces and join them with a cement intended for plastic models. The running gear is the most laborious part of the build on this type, so fit the wheels according to the instructions and keep checking that they lie in one plane; otherwise the track cannot be tensioned. Wash and degrease the surface before painting. The tools and fittings on the hull are more convenient to paint separately and fit only after the base coat.
The kit is intended for those interested in German tracked hardware of the Second World War and in building dioramas in 1:35 scale. Paints, glue and other modeling supplies are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise; the exact contents of the package and the recommended procedure are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
