A decal sheet from the Hungarian manufacturer HAD models, aimed at the national insignia of MiG-21 machines in the MF and UM versions. It is neither a kit nor an accessory part: the decals are applied to a finished painted model and serve to make its markings match the real subject. The large 1:32 scale makes higher demands on decals, because every inaccuracy in their placement and every visible edge of the carrier film is clearly apparent on the finished model.
The MiG-21 MF is the single-seat fighter version with built-in gun armament and a modified powerplant, while the MiG-21 UM is the corresponding two-seat trainer variant with a second cockpit and a modified canopy. Both types were part of the basic equipment of the Hungarian Air Force and were operated in its colors for many years. That is exactly why sheets of national insignia are combined with ordinary MiG-21 kits, which do not carry these markings in their basic form or carry them only in a limited way.
The foundation is a smooth gloss surface. On matte paint, air is trapped under a decal and silvering appears, which cannot be put right later. So give the model a gloss varnish before the decals and let it dry thoroughly. Soak the decal briefly in warm water, slide it off the paper onto the moistened spot and bring it into position with a soft brush. Draw the surplus water off with a paper towel by laying it on rather than by running it over the surface. On riveted and intricate areas use a decal softener, and once it is applied do not touch the decal until it has dried. Finally unify the surface with a matte or semi-gloss varnish, which will suppress the edges of the carrier film.
This is a stand-alone decal sheet. The kit, paints and varnishes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
