The Hawker Hurricane was a British single-seat fighter of the Second World War and, together with the Spitfire, it bore the main weight of the Battle of Britain. It was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12, and its armament was eight machine guns housed in the wings. Against the aerodynamically cleaner Spitfire the Hurricane was sturdier and easier to repair, which was valued at field airfields. The addition in the name refers to the tropical form: a bulky air intake filter was added under the nose of the aircraft, protecting the engine from sand and dust at airfields in the desert and the Mediterranean. The filter changes the look of the aircraft markedly and is among the most conspicuous distinguishing marks of these machines.
This is a kit of a model in 1:48 scale, supplied unassembled and unpainted. The number of parts, the contents of the package, the decals and the range of color options are given in the manufacturer's instructions. A model in this scale is large enough to make working the cockpit and the landing gear bays out worthwhile, and it still fits an ordinary display case.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade and sand the marks left by manufacture down, so that the joint of the wing to the fuselage seats properly. Finish and paint the cockpit before you close the fuselage. Mask the glazing before spraying, not once the paint has dried. With the tropical form do not underestimate the settled dust on the underside of the fuselage and on the landing gear; that is exactly what gives the model its setting.
