A set of pre-cut kabuki masks for a 1:48 model of the EA-18G Growler from the manufacturer Meng. It concentrates on one particular part of the build, the inner side of the cockpit canopy. The framing of the glazing is seen from the pilot station in the interior color, and outer masks alone are not enough for that detail. This is not an aircraft kit but an accessory to one, so you have to own the model itself.
The EA-18G Growler is a carrier-borne electronic warfare aircraft of the US Navy. It is based on the two-seat F/A-18F Super Hornet, with which it shares the airframe and the powerplant, and it carries equipment for jamming and suppressing air defenses. One way to tell it from the Super Hornet is the pods on the wingtips. It entered squadron service in the late 2000s and replaced the older EA-6B Prowler.
The masks are die-cut on a carrier film. Lift the individual parts carefully with the tip of a scalpel or with tweezers, lay them on a clean, degreased surface and press the edges down with a toothpick or a wooden stick. Do not touch the glazing with your fingers before masking. Apply the paint in thin coats and at lower pressure so that it does not run under the edge of the mask. On the inner framing it helps to spray the area with the interior color first and only then carry on. Lift the mask off shortly after it has dried, while the layer is still flexible, and the edge will stay sharp.
This is a masking accessory, not a kit. The aircraft model, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
