A sheet of self-adhesive masks of kabuki tape for a model of the high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft U-2 in its late versions, in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but an accessory that you use with a kit. New Ware grades its sets as BASIC, ADVANCED and EXPERT according to scope. EXPERT is the widest of the three and aims at the modeler not having to cut anything by hand. The maker gives the exact list of parts on the box.
The U-2 is a single-engine high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft with a very slender, almost glider-like wing, built for long flights at great heights. The U-2R version and the modernized U-2S that followed it are substantially larger than the original machines and carry bulky pods on the wing. The Senior Span designation goes with the equipment for satellite data transmission, whose characteristic external mark is a dorsal fairing. The TR-1A was a tactical variant of the same airframe. The combination of a long fuselage, dorsal fairings and a wing that reaches far out makes the model an unusually elongated piece that will not go unnoticed on a shelf.
A large sheet means a great many small pieces. Pick them out step by step, always only the ones you are sticking on at that moment, so that they do not get mixed up and tangled. Wash the clear parts beforehand in lukewarm water with dish soap and let them dry in the air. If you build the model in the all-dark finish that is typical of this type, count on every place where paint has run under being visible at first glance: spray really thin coats therefore and lead the paint from the edge of the mask inward. Before you start, go through the sheet and think out the order in which you will spray the surfaces. With more extensive sets this pays off more than with small ones. The masks are cut to fit the Italeri and Academy kits.
The package contains masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
