The turret of the T-90MS carries a whole row of observation and sighting blocks, and on a model they tend to be nothing but shallow rectangles in the same color as the rest of the hull. The set does away with that shortcoming: it gives the individual devices a clear surface. The blue items bring a cold color cast, while the clear ones leave the optics a neutral look that brings out the depth of the recess.
The set is prepared for the T-90MS kit from Zvezda. Combining the two shades lets you tell the main gunsight from the auxiliary vision blocks on one model and so create the impression that each device serves a different purpose.
A dark base makes the depth
A clear face on its own can read flat. Modelers therefore often paint the bottom of the recess under the optics a dark color beforehand, ideally matte black or a very dark gray. Light then passes through the clear face, reflects off the dark bottom and the vision block gains an apparent depth. Let the paint dry perfectly, as a wet layer under the optics will make stains.
