This is not a kit, nor a model in its own right, but a small add-on that comes into play only at the end of the work. The set contains items imitating the glass of the observation devices of the BMD-4M airborne fighting vehicle in 1:35, that is of its periscopes, vision blocks and optical heads. The color and gloss of the glass comes not from a brush but from the item itself, which is seated onto a finished, painted part. The set is designed for the Trumpeter kit.
On a real vehicle a vision block is the darkest and at the same time the glossiest place on the whole hull. A model needs that contrast: as soon as the vision blocks are painted in the same matte color as the rest, the vehicle looks blind and the eye has nowhere to catch a detail. Imitating glass by hand with clear coats works, but it is laborious and the result differs from piece to piece. A finished item, by contrast, gives all the devices on the model the same shade and the same reflection.
In 1:35 a single vision block measures only a few millimeters in scale, but its shape is still clearly legible, which is why it can be worked with this way. In smaller scales, in 1:72 for example, the same item would fall below the size at which separate glass still makes sense, and it would merge into its surroundings. The sets are therefore cut for one scale at a time and for the layout of the devices on a particular kit; an item from another scale will not fit either in shape or in size.
For the modeler who builds modern armor in 1:35 and wants the optics finished quickly and evenly, and for the beginner who cannot get tiny glass panes painted with a brush.
This is an add-on to a plastic model. The kit itself, the paints and the glue are not included in the package.
