A resin detail set in 1:35 scale that adds the cutting device known as the Rhino to the front of a built model of an American tank. The set is not a model of a tank, it is an accessory to a kit you already own. The designation pattern 4 tells this version from the other forms by the same brand, which differ in the shape and arrangement of the teeth and of the supporting frame.
Cutting devices of this kind came about in field conditions in Normandy as an answer to the dense network of banks overgrown with shrubs that tracked vehicles crossed with difficulty. The structure was welded from steel sections and from material found on the spot, mounted on the front of the hull at the towing eyes, and on driving forward it cut through the bank instead of the tank having to climb over the edge. That is exactly why individual examples differed in shape, a standardized form practically did not exist, and modelers therefore tell them apart by pattern.
Wash the casting in warm water with dish soap, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surfaces. Before gluing, offer the device up dry to the front and check that it is horizontal and symmetrical, as a tilted mounting is the most noticeable mistake on this type of accessory. It is glued with super glue. On painting: the structure was usually improvised, so it takes a different shade and a differently aged surface from the hull; a darker base works well, with bare metal on the edges of the teeth made with graphite or a hard pencil and strong rust in the places of the welds. Apply mud and grass remains above all from below and between the teeth, as that is where the story of the whole part is made.
