This item is a resin accessory, not a complete kit. It renders the one-piece cast hull of the M4A1 Sherman tank in the form with dry ammunition stowage and with cast additional armor, in 1:35 scale. It is used as a replacement for the hull from the base plastic kit. The maker PANZER ART is a Polish brand specializing in cast accessories for armored vehicles. On a cast hull the advantage of resin comes out in full: both the grainy surface of the casting and the irregular transitions of shape come out more convincingly than in injection molded plastic.
The M4A1 differed from the other Sherman versions by its one-piece cast hull with rounded shapes. Earlier vehicles had the ammunition stowed in what is known as the dry form, that is without the later protection by a water jacket that wet stowage brought in. On a number of examples, cast or welded reinforcing plates appeared in the places in front of the crew positions and at the ammunition bins. The combination of both features marks out a particular group of vehicles, and for a modeler it is the reason to change the hull rather than to modify the production part.
Wash the part in warm water with dish soap, cut the casting block off with a saw and level the mating surface on abrasive paper laid on a flat board. Protect your airways while sanding. Use super glue, and on large faces a type with a longer setting time is practical. Check the seating of the turret and of the running gear bogies dry before painting. On painting: a primer, an olive green shade, fine differences of shade to suggest the cast texture, a wash in the welds and hatches, scuffing on the edges, and dust with mud on the lower part of the hull.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
