A set of resin wheels for a model of the American M1083 tactical truck of the FMTV family in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle but a detail accessory replacing the plastic wheels from the box. The castings reproduce the tread of Michelin tires and the shape of the disc and offer a sharper relief than an injection mold with a parting line running across the tread can manage.
The M1083 is the medium three-axle member of the American FMTV family of tactical trucks, a vehicle with all-wheel drive meant for carrying cargo and troops and for carrying bodies. It shares the cab and a number of assemblies with the lighter two-axle version and differs above all in its longer frame and higher payload. Tall off-road tires with a pressure system that can be adjusted on the move are among the most conspicuous features of the vehicle, and their tread differs according to the supplier — which is why replacement wheels are offered in variants. This set matches the Michelin pattern.
Wash the wheels in lukewarm water with dish soap, cut the casting blocks off with a fine-bladed saw and take care that the round outline of the tread is kept. Level the surfaces with a file, sand with your airways protected and glue with super glue. On resin a primer is necessary before painting. The tire looks better in a gray-black shade than in pure black. Spray the disc separately, pull the transition between disc and rubber down with a dark wash and once the gloss is knocked back with a matte varnish, add dust pigments on the sidewall and coarser mud in the tread. On a three-axle vehicle it pays to keep the shade of the running gear uniform on all the wheels.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
