A masking set of kabuki tape for a model of the A-10A and A-10C Thunderbolt II ground-attack aircraft in 1:48 scale, listed in the EXPERT configuration.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set makes it easier to paint the clear parts and other areas that are to stay free of paint. The elements are pre-cut to shape, so cutting out and measuring tape directly on the model falls away. The result is sharp edges to the cockpit frames without overruns, which on glazing is what shows most. The set is listed in the EXPERT configuration, that is, in the extended variant of the range.
The masks are stuck on before spraying, never onto a finished coat. First wash and degrease the clear parts, otherwise the tape will not hold. Lift the individual elements off with tweezers, seat them in place and press the edges down properly, so that the paint does not run under them. Apply the paint in thin coats at a right angle to the edge of the mask, as a heavy layer all at once tends to seep underneath. Take the mask off once the paint has dried, while the coat has not yet fully cured, and with a pull at a sharp angle along the surface, not straight upward.
For builders of the A-10 ground-attack aircraft in 1:48 scale who want the cockpit sharply unmasked and do not feel like cutting tape by hand. The aircraft has sizeable glazing and a lot of frames, so masking by hand drags on.
The model, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise. Which kit the masks are cut for should be checked in the manufacturer's documentation.
