About product

The Sd.Kfz. 553 Ausf. Vierfuessler with a 15 cm sIG 33 in 1:35 scale

This kit in 1:35 scale belongs to a range of hypothetical German hardware, that is, hardware that was never built. The real subject is not an actual vehicle but a design fiction: a four-legged walking chassis carrying a superstructure with a heavy infantry gun. The designation Vierfuessler literally means quadruped and refers precisely to the way it moves. The model is injection-molded in polystyrene and is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Check the contents of the package and the number of parts on the box.

The real subject

The real subject does not exist as an actual machine and never did; it is a design in the spirit of alternative history. The numerical designation itself is fictional too, chosen by the manufacturer for the whole range of walking machines. Two things the design draws on are real, on the other hand. The first is the weapon: the 15 cm sIG 33 heavy infantry gun was existing equipment used for direct fire support, usually against fortified positions, and it was also mounted on tracked chassis. The second is the visual language of late German hardware, that is, flat armor with chamfered edges, grated cooling outlets and massive cast assemblies. The kit therefore stands on the border between modeling and fantasy: it is built like a military model, but its real subject is invented.

Building and painting tips

The most demanding part is the assembly of the legs. Glue them dry as a trial, try the stance on a flat board and only then set the glue, or the machine will rest on only three of them. Leave the movable joints free until you finish the model, both for the painting and for the final stance. Finish the superstructure and the gun separately. Because the real subject is not actual, the finish is not tied to documentation and you have freedom; late German schemes work well, that is, a dark yellow base with patches of green and brown. Unify the base with a primer and keep the weathering logical: dust and mud mainly on the legs and the lower surfaces, chipping on the edges and in the places where the crew would climb up.

Who the model is for

  • For modelers interested in hypothetical hardware and alternative history
  • For builders who want an unusual piece among classic vehicles
  • For anyone interested in the large 1:35 scale with room for weathering
  • For more advanced modelers, because of the assembly of the walking chassis

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a hypothetical design from an alternative history range. All that is real is the weapon, that is, the 15 cm sIG 33 heavy infantry gun, and the visual idiom of late German hardware.

Quadruped in German. It refers to the walking chassis with four legs, which is the main distinguishing mark of this range of models.

Late German schemes look right, that is, a dark yellow base with patches of green and brown. Because the real subject does not exist, you are not tied to documentation and can choose the scheme yourself.

What is demanding is mainly the assembly of the legs, so that the machine stands stably on all four. We recommend trying the parts dry and setting the glue only once the stance is adjusted.
