Skoda Octavia RS Executive Edition, a COBI brick kit

This is a clip-together brick kit from the Polish maker COBI, not a classic plastic model. The body, the glazing, the chassis and the small details are assembled from shaped bricks and additional parts that are joined by clicking them into each other. The colors come from the material itself and from printing on selected parts, so the finished model looks complete right after assembly. The model is in the Executive Edition form, which is a collector designation of the maker. The manufacturer also makes the same car in the Youngtimer form, so check when ordering which of the two variants you want.

The real subject

The Octavia RS is the sporting variant of the Octavia from Skoda of Mlada Boleslav. What sets it apart from the ordinary versions is a turbocharged gasoline engine, a stiffer and lower-set chassis, more powerful brakes and recognizable external features: its own bumpers, wheel rims and RS badging on the body. It is a car of Czech production, which makes sense in a collection alongside ordinary civilian vehicles as well as sports cars.

Assembly and display

Work through the steps of the instructions and push every joint fully home; a part that does not seat often shows up only several steps later, when the following assembly will not fit onto it. With printed parts watch the orientation, as the print faces one way and turning it after it has clicked in is awkward. The finished model holds firmly, can be picked up, carried and stood in a cabinet without worry, and it will even take being dismantled and reassembled. Dust is best swept off a displayed model with a soft brush.
