Responsibility details are not available.
A model of the German battleship Tirpitz from the Polish maker COBI. It is not a plastic model in the classic sense but a clip-together brick kit: the individual parts click into each other and the finished model holds together on its own. The shape of the hull, the superstructures, the funnel and the gun turrets is built up from shaped parts, while the color finish and the fine markings are carried by printing directly on the parts. Assembly proceeds in sections according to the instructions, so it can be spread over several evenings.
Tirpitz was the second unit of the Bismarck class and the largest battleship ever built in Germany. She spent most of her service in the Norwegian fjords, where her mere presence tied down considerable enemy forces without her taking part in a major naval action. Typical of the silhouette of the ship are a long slender hull, a pair of main battery turrets forward and a pair aft, a massive command superstructure and densely occupied platforms of light anti-aircraft armament.
Work through the individual steps of the instructions and keep checking that the rows of parts sit aligned; on a long hull a small deviation at the start shows up only at the stern. It is practical to assemble the superstructures and the turrets separately and to fit them onto the finished hull. The joint is firm, so the completed model can be handled and carried; on a shelf it benefits from a base or a stand that holds the hull straight. Dust is best swept off the intricate superstructures with a soft brush.
The model is assembled by joining the parts according to the enclosed instructions and, once complete, it is ready to be displayed.
