Young Miniatures 1:10 Raven Sorcerer is a resin portrait bust with a fantasy subject. The main work lies in painting the face, the feathers and the dark fabrics.

A collector's bust in 1:10 scale cast in resin. The building is short, as the casting is aligned and glued in several parts; all the rest of the work is done by the brush. In a large scale every stroke shows, so the bust is a painting task rather than a modeling one.
Preparing the casting
First a wash in lukewarm soapy water, so that the mold release agent disappears from the surface. Cut the casting blocks off with a sharp knife or a saw, run a scalpel along the mold parting lines and finish them with wet sandpaper, protecting your airways. Fill and sand the seams after gluing, otherwise they will appear in the painting as a dark groove. The parts are bonded with cyanoacrylate super glue, as cement for plastic has no effect on resin.
A thin coat of primer is necessary, otherwise the paint will not hold and will not cover evenly. Build the face in thinned layers: a mid flesh tone, lighting on the forehead, the nose and the cheekbones, darker transitions in the eye sockets and under the jaw. With fantasy subjects the skin is often given a cooler, greenish or bluish undertone so that the figure looks unusual; a classic warm treatment works just as well, and it is purely an authorial decision. Paint the eyes only once the skin is finished, with the thinnest brush. The hair and any feathers need a dark base and a dry brush to pick out the edges of the individual strands and feathers; with black feathers it pays to combine blue-gray and purplish lighting, because a pure black area looks dead on a model. Treat dark fabrics in the same way, that is, a dark base and deliberately lighter edges to the folds. Metal accessories will take a wash into the hollows and polished edges. At the end unify the whole with a weak weathering pass and pin the bust to a base.
The bust is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
