Masking cut-outs 1:72 for the glazing and wheels of the American carrier bomber with combined piston and jet power.
Responsibility details are not available.
The North American AJ Savage was created as a carrier-borne aircraft for a heavy load at a time when nobody else could manage such a task. It carried a pair of radial piston engines in the wing and, in addition, a jet unit in the rear fuselage that the pilot switched on for takeoff and over the target. The combination looks odd, but it gave the aircraft thrust and endurance at the same time.
To fit the large aircraft below deck, both the wing and the vertical tail folded. Some of the machines later ended their service as flying tankers and photographic reconnaissance aircraft, where the roomy fuselage was even more useful than the original combat equipment.
The cut-outs cover the cockpit glazing and the landing gear wheels. In 1:72 scale the canopy is small and hand-cut tape almost never sits accurately on its curves; pre-shaped pieces cut the work down to a few minutes.
On the deck of a ship the aircraft looked massive and operating it made heavy demands on the crews. Even so, it was the first type with which the navy could take off with a heavy load straight from a deck, without having to rely on land bases.
Do not throw the leftover scraps of paper away; they come in handy for covering leading edges or the transitions between camouflage shades.
