Compared with the basic level it covers a wider range of masked areas, so you spray more details and touch fewer of them in with a brush. In 1:72, where every inaccuracy strikes the eye at once, that pays off.
The BASIC, ADVANCED and EXPERT levels
New Ware grades its masking sets by extent. BASIC is the entry level, aimed at the glazing. ADVANCED has a wider reach. EXPERT is the most extensive and aims at modelers who want to spray even the small details instead of brushing them. The levels are not combined: the higher one usually covers the range of the lower one as well, so you buy a single set according to the detail you want.
The Grumman F-14B Tomcat is a two-seat carrier fighter with a variable-sweep wing. Compared with the original A version it received different turbofan engines with more thrust and more reliable running, which was the most important change of the whole program. The cockpit is a tandem one with generous glazing, so the framing of the canopy is clearly visible even in 1:72 scale.
Kabuki paper is soft and its adhesive has low tack, so the mask follows rounded shapes and leaves no residue on the plastic when lifted. Degrease the clear part beforehand and let it dry. Lift the stencil with tweezers, lay it on the glazing and press it down with a soft stick from the center outward; press the edges at the frames especially carefully, as that is where paint most often creeps in. Cover the rest of the glazing with masking tape and trim any excess paper with a fresh blade on a cutting surface, not on the clear part. Spray thin coats and hold the gun at right angles to the mask, not at an angle under it; the first coat belongs to the cockpit interior shade. Lift the masks while they are still fresh, pulling back over themselves at a shallow angle.
The set contains masking stencils only. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
