A plastic kit from the Taiwanese brand AFV Club, which has kept a series of British Centurions in 1:35 scale in its portfolio for years, representing the AVRE engineer version. The abbreviation stands for Assault Vehicle Royal Engineers. Compared with the gun tank it differs above all in its barrel armament and in the engineer equipment on the hull.
The Centurion was a British tank of the postwar generation, built in many versions and in service for decades with a number of armies. The AVRE engineer vehicle was created on its chassis and was intended for work on the battlefield: clearing obstacles, filling in ditches and preparing passages for the rest of the equipment. In place of the antitank gun it carried a short-barreled 165 mm demolition gun and could be fitted with a bulldozer blade and with carriers for engineer materiel. A vehicle of this kind stayed in British service for a very long time and is one of the characteristic pieces of engineer equipment.
With vehicles on the Centurion chassis it pays to assemble and paint the running gear before the side skirts cover it — afterwards you will not reach between the wheels. Fit the tracks and tension them dry so that the sag sits right. Glue the engineer equipment and the carried stores on only after the base coat, otherwise you end up with places a brush cannot reach. British equipment lives and dies with the shade of green, which is worth breaking up by lightening the upper surfaces slightly. Build the weathering in layers: a dark wash in the recesses, then dust pigments from the bottom up and finally polished edges where the crew touched the vehicle. Mud effects belong mainly on the track runs, the fenders and the bottom of the hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
