A set of masks of kabuki tape in 1:48 scale for a model of the attack helicopter AH-64 Apache in the Block II version. They are stuck on before spraying.
Responsibility details are not available.
The AH-64 Apache is an American attack helicopter, recognizable by its narrow fuselage with two seats one behind the other, the gun under the nose and the stub wing pylons at the sides. The Block II designation refers to a modernized standard of the machine. On a model the most demanding place is the glazing of the cockpit with its many straight frames, and that is exactly where a masking set does most of the work.
Kabuki tape is a thin paper masking tape which adapts well to a rounded surface, holds at the edge and leaves no adhesive behind after removal. The masks are cut to shape in advance, so trimming tape directly on the model is no longer needed and the edges of the frames come out sharp and symmetrical on both sides of the machine. The extent of the set and the placement of the individual masks are given in the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer.
Both the glazing and the surrounding surface have to be clean, dry and degreased before sticking, otherwise paint will creep under the edge. Lay the mask on, press the edges down carefully with a toothpick or the tip of a pair of tweezers, and only then spray. Choose several thin coats instead of one thick one, because a thick coat will create a ridge at the edge that stays visible even after removal. Take the mask off as soon as the paint has set, and peel it away slowly and at an angle to the surface. It pays off to go through the instructions before the build, because some places are no longer reachable once the parts have been glued.
The package contains masks to the extent stated by the manufacturer. The helicopter model, paints and varnish are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
