Hexagon head screws in the 1.5 mm size are an add-on set for models of vehicles. They replace a molded head with a part with a sharp hexagon, which is fitted into a drilled hole.

An add-on set of small imitations of fasteners for models of military and civilian vehicles. It is not a kit or a model but parts for detailing a build already in progress. A hexagon head is the most common shape on vehicles and at the same time the one on which it shows fastest whether a detail came out of an injection mold or was fitted separately.
For a head to come out of a mold, its hexagon has to widen toward the base and the edges have to be rounded. The result is a shape that from a distance looks more like a round button than a screw. Add the parting line, which cuts across the heads in a row, and the sanding of the seam, which levels them with their surroundings. A fitted part, by contrast, has six distinct faces and edges, which hold their outline even after a primer is sprayed on and after a wash.
Cut the original head off flat with a scalpel and sand the surface over. Prick the center with a point, so that the drill does not wander, and drill the hole with a micro drill in a hand holder. Choose the diameter by the shank, not by the width of the head, and make the hole rather shallower. Set the part in with tweezers and align the hexagon before you secure it with the slightest drop of cyanoacrylate glue. On heads next to one another a random alignment shows and looks restless.
Choose the size according to the scale of the model. In this range the designation 1.5 mm is among the larger sizes and matches a scale of about 1:35. In the larger scales the detail is looked at from close up, so fitted fasteners pay off most there, but it is also there that an error in size shows fastest.
