The real subject

The Aero L-29 Delfin is a Czechoslovak two-seat jet trainer, the first jet aircraft of Czechoslovakia's own design, built in large series. It served as a basic and advanced trainer type in a number of countries and lasted in training through whole generations of pilots, among others in the Hungarian Air Force. In construction it is a simple, rugged and undemanding machine with the cockpits in tandem; the color schemes of the individual operators differ so much that separate decal sheets for the type are worth having.

Tips for applying the decals

First finish the model in paint and varnish it with a gloss varnish - on a matte surface, silvering will appear around the decal. Cut the artwork out close to the edge, soak it in lukewarm water and leave it to rest until the backing starts to slide. Transfer the decal with a brush, draw the excess water off and use a decal softener, so the film settles into the engraved lines. A trainer tends to have a great many small technical markings, so have sharp tweezers ready and work one element at a time. Finally, fix it with varnish to the degree of sheen you want.
