The T-55 was one of the most widespread tanks of the Cold War, produced in great numbers by the Soviet Union and by its allies. The T-55A version brought improved anti-radiation protection for the crew and further modifications. The upgrade of 1981 then included further period changes to the equipment. The vehicle carried a 100 mm gun and thanks to its simple and tough design it served all over the world and stayed in use in a number of armies for long decades.
Assemble and paint the workable track links separately before they are fitted — they can be given a nice sag over the road wheels. Paint the interior of the turret and the hatches before you close them. A basic green shade suits Soviet equipment; emphasize the panel lines and the details with a wash and apply marked mud and dust pigments to the running gear and the lower hull, which suit the tank well.
