Model Scene grass tufts in a dried-up, yellowed shade for building dioramas, vignettes and display bases. It is not a kit or an object of a scene in its own right but a vegetation material that is applied to terrain that is already finished and painted. That is exactly what sets it apart from complete diorama accessories: on its own it represents nothing, and only on a base does it give a scene life.

How the tufts are worked with

The tufts are taken one at a time with tweezers and placed at spots where grass would grow in reality as well: along the edges of rutted roads, at the feet of fences and walls, in the gaps of paving and around stones. If a tuft does not hold on its own, a drop of PVA (white) glue or a thin super glue is enough. Once dry the growth can be toned: a light spray or a dry brush unifies the color of the tufts with the base, and a dust pigment settles the transition between the grass and the ground.

• Do not place the tufts regularly, as uneven clusters look more natural than an even grid.
• Fluff the fibers up lightly once they are glued down, so that they do not stay flattened.
• The dry shade suits summer and autumn scenes and equipment dusty from the terrain.
