About product

Quinta Studio 1:48 DH Mosquito B Mk.IV/PR Mk.IV, a colored interior

A set of colored decals for the interior of the bomber and reconnaissance versions of the de Havilland Mosquito in 1:48 scale. The instruments, the lettering and the colored areas are printed from manufacture. It is an accessory to a kit, not a model — do not look for plastic parts or glue in the package. The target kit is Tamiya.

A gloss base and the final unifying

The key step is the one that is easily skimped: the intermediate varnish. Paint the cockpit in the base shade, let the paint cure thoroughly and brush a thin layer of gloss varnish over it. A matte coat has a rough surface full of microscopic cavities in which air gets stuck under the decal — the result is a white haze around the edges, which cannot be put right afterward. A gloss layer seals the surface and the print adheres to it over its whole area. Once the decals are dry comes the opposite step: a matte or semi-gloss overcoat, which unifies the gloss of the whole compartment and at the same time protects the print during further operations. Without it, glossy spots in the cockpit would give away where the decals end.

Practical notes

The cockpit of the Mosquito is clearly visible when the entry is open, so care pays off. Release the elements after about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water, fine-tune them with a damp brush and blot the excess water with a cotton swab laid against them from the side. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as their chemicals attack the printed resin and ruin the element.

Who the set is for

  • For modelers of the wooden Mosquito in the bomber or the reconnaissance version
  • For builds with the entry door open, where the interior is on show
  • For those who want legible instruments without painting with a fine brush
  • For modelers who have already worked with decals

Paints and varnishes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

A matte coat is microscopically rough and air gets stuck in it under the decal. A white haze appears around the edges, which cannot be put right afterward. A gloss layer seals the surface and the print adheres over its whole area.

We recommend it. A matte or semi-gloss overcoat unifies the gloss of the whole compartment, so that it is not obvious where the decals end, and at the same time it protects the print during weathering.

The name gives the bomber B Mk.IV as well as the reconnaissance PR Mk.IV. Check the extent of the set and the differences between the two cockpits on the box.

The target kit is Tamiya. The cut and the dimensions follow from it, and on another mold the shapes may differ.
