New Ware 1:48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XIV / Mk.XVIII BASIC is a masking set in kabuki tape for models of the late Griffon Spitfires in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a masking set, not a kit of an airplane. Kabuki tape is a thin paper masking tape that holds well, follows the curves of glazing and leaves no adhesive on the surface when lifted. The BASIC designation in the name refers to the level of extent of the set, because the same maker also offers a more extensive EXPERT variant for the same type. BASIC is the smaller of the two options.
The Spitfire Mk.XIV and Mk.XVIII are among the late versions of the British fighter with the Griffon engine. Compared with the early Spitfires with the Merlin they differ in a longer nose, a different shape of engine cowling and a stronger tail unit. Both versions are built from common molds, which is why the maker of the masks covers both types with one sheet.
First wash and degrease the glazing, as grease from fingers is the most common cause of paint creeping. Transfer the masks with tweezers and press the edges down with a blunt tool, on curves in small sections. Seal the edges with a thin coat of the interior color, and only then spray the exterior shade, in several thin coats. Remove the mask before the paint has over-hardened. Wipe off any residue of adhesive with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol, but away from the surface of the clear part.
The set contains masking parts only. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
