Omask 1:48 P-51B Mustang is a pre-cut masking set for the glazing of a model of the Mustang in 1:48 scale, cut for the Monogram kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an accessory for a kit, not a model of an airplane. The pre-cut masks are stuck onto the cockpit glazing and serve to give the framing a crisp edge after spraying and to keep the glass clean. The set is cut for the Monogram kit. We state that because the manufacturer also makes a set with an identical name for a different kit, and without this detail the two items could not be told apart.
The North American P-51B Mustang is the version of the American fighter with a license-built Merlin engine and with the original framed cockpit canopy, that is still without the bubble canopy of the later versions. It is precisely the framed canopy that makes masking a more laborious task on this version than on the later P-51D.
First wash and degrease the glazing. Transfer the masks with tweezers, offer them up dry and then press the edges down with a blunt tool. Before the actual shade, spray a thin coat of the interior color, which seals the edge. Spray the exterior shade in several thin coats. Lift the mask while the paint is fresh, with an oblique pull. On the Mustang it pays to mask the transition between the cockpit and the spine of the fuselage as well, where the paint tends to be most stressed.
The set contains masking parts only. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
