The AH-64D Longbow Apache is a two-seat attack helicopter with tandem cockpits. The qualifier Longbow goes with the radar housed in a dome above the main rotor head, which lets the machine work with targets even from behind cover. Under the stub wings it carries pylons for guided missiles and unguided rockets, and under the forward fuselage a trainable cannon. The power comes from two turboshaft engines.
A plastic kit in 1:144 scale, supplied unassembled and unpainted. On the finished model the main rotor has a diameter of around ten centimeters, so a finished piece takes up only a little room in a display case. The number of parts, the contents of the decal sheet and the color options offered are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Glue the rotor blades on only once the fuselage is painted, otherwise you will not get under them while spraying. The dark base color of the helicopter easily swallows detail, so brighten it slightly in the middle of the areas and leave the transitions soft. Mask the cockpit glazing before spraying. Seat the pylons under the stub wings and their loads at the end, so that they are not in the way during handling. The small antennas and probes belong at the very end, because they break the most easily.
The set suits collectors of modern military hardware in a small scale and modelers who want to build a helicopter quickly and without great demands on space. Paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
