A turned metal accessory in 1:144 scale from the Polish manufacturer MASTER, intended for models of the Alpha Jet in the A version. It replaces the plastic pitot tube, that is, the dynamic pressure sensor on the nose. It is not a kit of the aircraft but a single small replacement part, whose replacement is one of the surest routes to a markedly better result in small scales.
The pointed sensor on the nose is one of the first places the eye goes on a model. In 1:144, though, a plastic mold cannot produce a rod thin enough: the part is blunt, usually slightly bent and it likes to break off while being cut from the sprue. Turned metal offers the correct slender profile, accurate stepping of diameters and a sharp tip, and it is strong enough for the model to stand up to ordinary carrying.
The Alpha Jet is a twin-engine subsonic aircraft with two seats in tandem, created as a joint French and German program. It was designed so that one airframe would cover two different roles: advanced training of pilots and light combat duties. The version designated A corresponds to the form adopted in German service, which was adapted to the second of those roles and differs from the training variant in its equipment and in the shape of the nose.
Cut the plastic sensor off as close to the surface of the nose as possible and sand the area gently. Drill the hole gradually from a thin bit, as otherwise the thin wall may be broken through. Glue the metal part with super glue applied in a minimal amount, ideally with the tip of a toothpick; an excess of glue spreads on smooth metal and leaves a white film. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and spray it with a primer for metal. Fit the tube at the very end, after both the varnishing and the decals; otherwise it is easy to bend it while masking.
This is not a kit of the aircraft but a metal accessory for one. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
