The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a four-engined turboprop transport aircraft with a high-set wing and a cargo ramp at the tail. Belgium operated it for the period the name of the set describes as fifty years of service, and its withdrawal was accompanied by a commemorative finish. Such a scheme is attractive to a modeler precisely because it differs markedly from the ordinary service finish and stands out well in a small scale.
Decals always belong on a glossy surface. So spray the model with paint first and overcoat it with a gloss clear varnish, otherwise air will be trapped under the decal and a matte silvered edge will appear around the motif. Cut the decal out as closely as possible, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and leave it to stand until it begins to slide freely on the backing paper. Transfer it into place, blot the surplus water away with a paper towel and use a decal softener. That helps it bed into the engraved lines and over the riveting. Once it is dry, seal everything with a matte or semi-gloss varnish to suit the character of the finish, so the glossy film around the motifs disappears.
