A set of accurately shaped self-adhesive painting masks for a model of the Boeing 747SCA airliner with the Space Shuttle orbiter in 1:144 scale. The masks are cut from thin washi (kabuki) tape, which follows rounded shapes well and leaves no adhesive residue once lifted. They make masking the cockpit glazing as well as the national insignia and the color areas of both machines easier.
You lift the mask off the sheet, seat it exactly on the part and press the edges down. You then apply the paint with an airbrush or a brush with no risk of it running over. Once it has dried you take the mask off carefully and get sharp, clean color transitions that are hard to reach by hand on the large areas of the aircraft.
The Boeing 747SCA (Shuttle Carrier Aircraft) was a specially converted Boeing 747 airliner that carried the American Space Shuttle orbiter on its back. It served to move the orbiter between the landing site and the launch complex and for test flights. The pairing of the airliner and the orbiter is among the iconic images of the space program.
