A set of photo-etched metal parts in 1:144 scale intended to raise the level of detail of a model of the British Hawker Tempest Mk.V fighter aircraft. It is not a model of the aircraft — the package holds no plastic parts of the fuselage or the wings and cannot be used without a base kit. In 1:144 scale photo-etching is practically the only way to get genuinely thin features onto a model, because injection-molded plastic at this size is necessarily coarser.
The Hawker Tempest Mk.V was a British single-seat fighter aircraft of the end of World War II, which came out of the earlier Typhoon type but was given a new wing with a thinner profile. It was powered by the Napier Sabre H-24 engine and the main armament was made up of cannon of 20 mm caliber in the wing. The machine stood out for its speed at low and medium altitudes, which marked it out for action against fast low-flying targets. A characteristic feature is the deep front of the fuselage with its conspicuous radiator and the long propeller spinner.
In 1:144 scale the photo-etched parts are extremely small — work with tweezers, over a surface and in good light. Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel, not by twisting. Make the folds in a bender or between two straight jaws. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin, because even a small drop spreads at this scale. Before fitting, cut off and sand down the plastic features the etched part replaces. Degrease the metal and prime it, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
It is an accessory set. The plastic kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before you buy, check that the set matches your kit.
