The set is a standalone kit of a building, neither an aircraft nor a ship model. It builds the lighthouse that stands on Brier Island in Canada. The box holds castings in cast resin and photo-etched sheet for the railings and the fine structural parts, plus film for glazing the lantern. Simple lighting is included as well, that is an LED, a switch, wiring and a battery, so the lighthouse can really shine in a display case.
A lighthouse is a navigational structure that marks a coastal reference point by its light and by conspicuous daytime markings. Towers of this kind are usually divided into strong color bands so that they can be told apart in daylight, and the upper part is a glazed lantern surrounded by a gallery with a railing. Brier Island lies off the Canadian coast and its lighthouse is one of the characteristic features of that landscape.
Wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surfaces with sanding paper; protect your airways while sanding. Bend the photo-etched parts over a sharp edge or in a bending tool so that the fold comes out straight. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Connect and test the lighting first and only then close up the tower, because once it is glued you can no longer reach the wiring. Paint over a primer, mask the sharp boundary between the color bands with masking tape and finish the surface with a thin wash and a light dry brush so that the structure does not look brand new.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
